The Samsung Galaxy Grand has already been launched and is expected in the market by the first quarter of 2013. The Nokia Lumia 920 is already in the market. The devices represent the very best in their own categories. So if you are to choose between the legendary Lumia 920 – the very best Windows 8 device in the market and the Galaxy Grand, the new defining device of the Android arsenal, complete with Android Jellybean experience, then which would you choose.
The choice is difficult, no doubt, but these two devices have their own strengths and weaknesses. So, here’s a comparison between the two devices to help you make your decision.
There’s really nothing common in the design of the two devices. While the Galaxy Grand looks like an extended model of the Galaxy S3 with bigger size and display, the design concept of the Lumia 920 is completely new. The Lumia 920 is a phone-tablet hybrid design, a phablet as many would say. It is also more colorful and appealing than the Galaxy Grand. While the Galaxy Grand will be available in only two colors (the same boring black and white), the Lumia 920 is available in a variety of colors and will be delight to your eyes.
The Galaxy Grand has capacitive touch screen with 16M colors while the Lumia 920 has IPS TFT capacitive touch screen with 16M colors. The pixel quality of the Galaxy Grand is rather bad for a high-end smartphone with only 480 x 800 pixels. The screen size of the Galaxy Grand is 5 inches with 187 ppi density. The Lumia 920 has a screen resolution of 768 x 1280 pixels. The screen size is 4.5 inches and the pixel density is 332 ppi. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass with Pure Motion HD and Clear Black display.
The Lumia 920 has 3G as well as 4G LTE. The Grand does not have LTE, which is another drawback for a high-end Smartphone. The data speed offered by Grand is also pretty low compared to the Lumia 920. Grand gives only up to 21 Mbps in HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps in HSUPA while the Lumia 920 gives speeds up to 42.2 Mbps in HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps in HSUPA. The speeds offered by the LTE in Lumia 920 goes up to 100 Mbps. The Lumia 920 however supports only micro-SIM but the Galaxy Grand supports normal dual SIM technology.
The Lumia 920 as well as Galaxy Grand has 8MP rear cameras. The Galaxy Grand however has ordinary camera lens and the Lumia 920 has Carl Zeiss Optic lens with dual flash. The Grand has a single flash.
Both smartphones have front cameras – Galaxy Grand has 2MP front camera while the Lumia 920 has 1.3 MP front camera.
Samsung may be able to lure its fans and potential customers with Galaxy Grand as it has a reflection of Galaxy S3 in it but Nokia is also moving ahead neck-to-neck with few important goodness on Lumia 920 over the Grand. The real war may be between choosing an Android phone or a device run on Windows Phone OS.
